The First Khotwa Forum: A Step Towards Choosing a University Major
The Happy Homes Association for Culture and Development organized the first “Khotwa: A Step Towards Choosing a University Major” Forum on Sunday, July 10, 2016. This voluntary initiative aimed to help students make informed and well-considered decisions when choosing their university majors, in ways that align with their interests and abilities while addressing the needs of society and the aspirations of the nation.
The forum was organized as part of the Association’s commitment to activating the role of the community in guiding students towards suitable academic and career paths. It sought to achieve this by sharing professional expertise and successful experiences, familiarizing students with different academic fields and labor market requirements, and broadening their horizons to help them make decisions that contribute to building their academic and professional futures.
The forum primarily targeted Tawjihi students and their parents, as well as secondary school students and other interested individuals. It took the form of an interactive educational day featuring meetings, lectures, and discussions with specialists, experts, and academics. These activities aimed to broaden students’ perspectives and strengthen their awareness of the importance of choosing a university major based on sound academic and practical considerations.
The forum featured a range of guidance sessions and inspiring experiences. Ms. Asmaa Al-Sharbati presented a session entitled “Strategies for Choosing a University Major,” addressing the key principles that help students make appropriate decisions about their university studies in accordance with their interests, abilities, and future aspirations.
Mr. Akram Al-Natsheh, a media professional and journalist, presented “Media and the Needs of the Modern Era,” highlighting the role of media amid contemporary changes and society’s evolving needs. Mr. Shuaib Zahdeh presented “A Youth Perspective and a Success Story,” sharing an inspiring youth experience that emphasized the importance of ambition and perseverance in achieving success. Eng. Hanadi Hijazi presented “A Youth Perspective,” adding a youth-focused dimension to the forum and enriching discussions on future choices and aspirations.
The forum provided a space for interaction and knowledge exchange, offering students an opportunity to explore diverse academic and professional fields and reflect more consciously and responsibly on their futures. It also highlighted the importance of aligning personal interests and individual abilities with the needs of society.
The first “Khotwa” Forum reflects the Happy Homes Association for Culture and Development’s ongoing efforts to support students and guide them academically and professionally, empowering them to take an active role in shaping their futures. Through educational and community initiatives, the Association seeks to prepare a generation capable of making informed decisions and contributing effectively to the service of their community and nation.
