The Fourth Khatwa Forum

The Happy Homes Association for Culture and Development organized the Fourth “Khatwa” Forum for University Major Selection on Wednesday, June 10, 2019, at the Palestinian Child House Club Theater. The forum, held for the fourth consecutive year, primarily targeted General Secondary Education students and secondary school students in general.

The forum was inaugurated by the President of the Association, Ms. Suhair Hassouna, who welcomed the attending students and guests, as well as the participating universities represented by booths at the forum. She thanked the staff and organizing committee and emphasized that the forum is part of the Association’s efforts to promote community awareness among all members of society.

The forum aims to engage community stakeholders in helping students set their priorities when choosing university majors and to raise their awareness through an educational day featuring talks and discussions with speakers and academics from various fields. It seeks to broaden students’ options and perspectives and help them make more informed choices of university majors in line with the needs of their country.

The forum featured a number of sessions, including “How Do I Choose My University Major?” presented by Ms. Asmaa Al-Sharbati, who used the Myers-Briggs personality assessment to help students better understand themselves and make informed career choices. The program also included inspiring experiences shared by Ms. Maryam Al-Fasfous and Eng. Laila Abu Al-Failat.

Palestine Polytechnic University made a notable contribution to the forum, with Mr. Abdul Nasser Da’na, Director of Public Relations and Media, presenting the advantages of studying at the university and introducing the majors it offers. This was followed by a session titled “Studying at Palestinian Universities vs. Studying Abroad: Pros and Cons,” presented by Mr. Mohammad Aqabneh and Dr. Islam Hassouna. The forum concluded with a session by Dr. Farouq Ashour titled “Three Tips I Wish I Had Known Before Entering University.”

The forum also included information booths representing local universities, including Hebron University, Al-Quds Open University, and Palestine Polytechnic University, giving students the opportunity to learn more about the majors and programs offered by these universities.

The Association seeks to continue organizing the “Khatwa” Forum annually so that the largest possible number of students can benefit from it, through cooperation with public and private educational institutions. It also extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who contributed to and supported the success of this year’s forum.
