The Second Khotwa Forum for University Major Selection
The Happy Homes Association for Culture and Development organized the second edition of the “Khotwa” Forum on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the Hebron Tourist Hotel. The forum primarily targeted Tawjihi students, as well as secondary school students in general, aiming to help them choose university majors that align with their interests, abilities, and future aspirations.
The forum was organized as part of the Association’s commitment to raising students’ awareness of the importance of making informed decisions when selecting university majors and helping them identify their educational and career paths through careful planning, thereby contributing to building their academic and professional futures on sound foundations.
The forum featured a variety of guidance sessions and interactive activities addressing different aspects of university major selection. Ms. Asmaa Al-Sharbati presented two sessions: the first, “Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Personality Assessment,” which aimed to help students understand their personality traits and their relationship to academic and career choices; and the second, “What If?”, which encouraged students to broaden their thinking and explore different possibilities they might encounter throughout their educational journeys.
Ms. Abeer Quneibi presented a session entitled “Listen to Your Inner Voice,” while Mr. Wael Ahreiz addressed the importance of learning and its role in shaping the future through his session, “Why Do We Learn?” Eng. Shatha Al-Qawasmi introduced students to Engineering Sciences, while Mr. Amjad Al-Natsheh presented Administrative Sciences and Information Systems. Dr. Bilal Al-Shuwaiki introduced students to Humanities, helping them explore diverse fields of study and their future prospects.
The forum also addressed several issues and challenges students may face when choosing their university majors. Ms. Mirfat Hassouna presented a session entitled “What If Your Wishes Conflict with Your Family’s Wishes?”, while Ms. Doaa Hamed discussed “What If You Choose a Major That Does Not Match Your Abilities and Interests?” These sessions highlighted the importance of balancing personal aspirations with individual abilities and potential when making academic decisions.
To broaden students’ perspectives on their futures and their roles in society, Ms. Rosa Al-Musalama presented a session entitled “Girls and Living Away from Home,” while Ms. Rawan Al-Damen addressed “The Role of Academic Specialization in Serving the Palestinian Cause,” emphasizing the importance of applying knowledge and expertise across different fields to serve the community and the Palestinian cause.
These diverse sessions helped provide students with a broader understanding of their university options and highlighted the importance of self-awareness, understanding personal abilities and interests, and benefiting from guidance and counseling to make well-informed decisions about their futures.
The organization of the second “Khotwa” Forum reflects the Happy Homes Association for Culture and Development’s ongoing efforts to provide educational and guidance initiatives that respond to students’ needs and support them in shaping their educational and career paths, empowering them to make informed and responsible decisions when choosing their university majors.
